WORCESTER Triathlon Club’s veteran international Rachel Ward secured a silver medal at the British Triathlon Championships.

She braved rain showers, shoals of jellyfish and high winds to finish home and dry in Liverpool.

Competing in the 55 to 59 year age group, the Stourport GP recorded a time of two hours 30 minutes 41 seconds over the standard Olympic distance.

Competing around the famous Liverpool Docks area, Ward finished just 56 seconds behind the winner Bridget Ripley from Anglesey.

Ward will be contesting her fifth World Triathlon Championships for Great Britain in Chicago in September.

She has competed in Vancouver, Brisbane, Beijing and Edmonton since joining the Worcester club 10 years ago.

Another county stalwart, Kidderminster and Stourport’s Jacqui Phillips, won the 45 to 49 year title in Liverpool with a time of 2.22.41.
