A LATE Sean Geddes strike earned Worcester City a 2-2 draw against a young Birmingham City outfit at Aggborough tonight to maintain their unbeaten pre-season run.

There was another massive positive for the home side in their final friendly before next Saturday’s trip to Gainsborough Trinity with a first goal for striker Ryan Rowe.

The summer signing handed City a first-half lead and was involved in the incident that led to the late equaliser.

The visitors started strongly with wingers Kyle McFarlane and Wes McDonald showing searing pace, while Alfie Crooks produced neat footwork in the middle.

McDonald created the first chance on 10 minutes, shimmying past his marker only to hit a low shot wide from the edge of the area.

Ten minutes later, City had settled into their stride and Rowe steered the ball to Dan Nti, who tested keeper Connal Trueman at his near post.

Visiting defender Steve Seddon put a shot over from a corner but the hosts took a deserved lead on 24 minutes.

Skipper Ellis Deeney’s free-kick from inside his own half was worked to Rowe, who placed his 18-yard drive beyond the keeper.

Trueman held on to Geddes’ shot six minutes later, while summer signing George Nash stamped his authority in midfield.

But, having taken control, City were caught out three minutes before half-time.

A long kick from Blues’ keeper looked to have been guided back to Nathan Vaughan by full-back Jamie Smith only for McFarlane to lift the ball into the net.

Buoyed by the goal, the young visitors upped their game for the second-half and were in front within three minutes.

A long diagonal ball picked out McFarlane in space on the right side of the area.

His initial shot was well blocked by Vaughan but the keeper then brought the winger down as he looked to score from the rebound and Luke Truslove coolly dispatched the penalty.

On the hour, McFarlane again found space in behind only to slip in front of goal with just Vaughan to beat.

Rowe tried his luck with a few efforts before the equaliser came on 86 minutes when he latched on to a long clearance only to be hauled down by sub keeper Jake Weaver.

Geddes’ penalty was saved but he reacted quickest to slot home the rebound.
