FOUR Worcester Triathlon Club members qualified for the Duathlon World Championships.

Nick Yarworth, Marc Scriven, Ray Bunn and Les Bailey all finished high enough in their respective age categories at a popular race near Cambridge.

They were among more than 400 entrants for the national duathlon series ranking race and qualifier for the world championships in Gyor, Hungary, late next month.

The race started and finished with a 7.5km run sandwiching a 41.5km bicycle section from the village of Bottisham.

The weather was ideal although a little misty at first but this quickly dispersed.

Bailey won his category of 70 to 74 years by 18 minutes in a time of 2 hours 28 minutes 19 seconds.

He leads his category in the ranking series.

Scriven did a fast time of 2:08-07, making him fifth in the 45 to 49 year category and is in the top three in the ranking category.

Yarworth, in his first duathlon of the year, clocked 2:12-16 - with one of the fastest bike splits - coming 11th in the 45 to 49 year category.

Bunn was fourth in the 65 to 69 year category in a time of 2:38-10.

Two Worcester members made confident starts to the season with thirdplaced finishes in their category for the first local race of the season.

More than 250 took part in the Warwick Triathlon at Warwick School in blistering weather.

Competitors started every couple of minutes in groups of six for the pool swim followed by an undulating 20km cycle ride in the countryside.

They returned to the school for a 5km run around the grounds and surrounding paths.

In the hottest conditions, Matthew Everest was 16th overall but third in the junior category in 1:00-58.

Steve Lloyd finished 23rd overall but third in the veteran category in 1:01-58.
