JOINT manager Carl Heeley says Worcester City have several players who can fill the void left by departed left-back Darren Campion.

Campion’s arrival at City was lauded by Heeley earlier this summer but the defender’s contract has been terminated after just three months.

Campion has since signed for National League North basement boys Telford United.

Now Heeley believes the dependable Tyler Weir and Sam Minihan are among those capable of filling the left-back position.

“Darren has left the club and, as much as it’s disappointing, we move on,” said Heeley.

“We still have good players there. We have Tyler Weir, Sam Minihan, Jamie Smith, who is out on loan, and lads like Danny Jackman and George Nash who have both filled in at full-back in the past. We are fine in that area and we move on to the next one.”

Campion, 27, told City’s management on Thursday he was unhappy at the club and wanted to pursue other options in football.

Heeley explained: “He informed us he wasn’t happy at the club, he hadn’t really settled and he wanted to pursue other options.

"On the other hand, it’s disappointing to lose players but you appreciate his honesty.

“He could have just sat on his contract and taken his money.

“It’s disappointing but there’s no point keeping players who are not happy and potentially not fully fighting for the cause.”

Heeley added: “Things happen in football. I have got my views on what has happened but I think it will become crystal clear.”

Central defender Jacob Rowe could be a surprise inclusion in Worcester’s squad for today’s league trip to Brackley Town  (3pm).

Brackley go in to the match searching for only a second win of the season and looking for a return to the form which saw Harrogate defeated at St James’ Park on the opening day.

The Saints have identified Worcester’s dangermen as Daniel Nti and former Brackley favourite Ryan Rowe.
