SIX of Worcestershire’s academy players helped the Midlands Under-17s to win the final of the England Development Programme ‘Super Fours’ competition.
They secured a 62-run success over the North Under-17s at the National Performance Centre.
Skipper Ben Twohig, Josh Dell, Nick Hammond, Zen Malik, Josh Haynes and Josh Tongue were all part of the Midlands side who went unbeaten through the competition.
The Midlands followed up a seven-wicket win over the North in the qualifying stages with another convincing success.
They totalled 254-9 in their 50 overs, with Hammond (20) and Haynes (39) making good contributions with the bat.
Tongue took the new ball and struck an early blow before returning to claim a second wicket and finished with 2-44 from his 10 overs.
Twohig completed a successful tournament by having the North’s top scorer Sam Oldham stumped for 83 to end the match.
The Malvern College pupil claimed eight wickets in his four appearances in the tournament.
