WORCESTER City crashed to a fourth straight defeat as two goals in each half saw visitors Hednesford Town ease their way to the points.

Not even a late consolation from Sean Geddes could lift the Aggborough gloom as City slipped into the National League North bottom three.

Management pair Carl Heeley and Matt Gardiner made five changes to the side beaten 2-0 at Brackley Town on Saturday.

There were returns for midfielders Connor Gater and George Nash with keeper Daniel Lloyd-Weston making his league debut in place of Nathan Vaughan.

And there were also places for two new signings in former Kidderminster central defender Tom Sharpe, snapped up from Brackley, and on-loan Nottingham Forest striker Nikolay Todorov.

Geddes had the first attempt on the Hednesford goal with a 25-yard shot that sailed over and then he forced visiting keeper Dave Parton into a decent save to tip a long-range free-kick over the bar.

The Pitmen had gone close inside the opening five minutes when Kyle Perry’s close-range effort was kept out by an excellent Lloyd-Weston save.

Hednesford made the breakthrough on 21 minutes when a long ball forward found ex-City favourite Tom Thorley, who sneaked in between the central defenders and looped his header over keeper Lloyd-Weston.

From then on it was one-way traffic for the remainder of the half.

Perry missed a glorious chance on 29 minutes, lifting the ball over the target from 10 yards after Kennedy Digie steered a Sean Williams free-kick into the area before being denied by an excellent save moments later.

Another good save from Lloyd-Weston denied Digie but the City keeper was helpless to stop the visitors from doubling their tally on 38 minutes.

Nathan Modest pulled the ball back from the byline and, with Rob Elvins wrong-footed, former Kidderminster attacker Ahmed Obeng had no problem in finding the net from eight yards.

Worcester pair Jacob Rowe and Danny Jackman came on for the second-half only for Hednesford to extend their lead on 56 minutes.

Sean Williams cut in from the left flank and powered a fierce 20-yard shot in off the post.

There was to be no respite for the home side and they shipped a fourth goal eight minutes later when, from a corner, the ball was steered into the area where it was turned home by skipper Ben Bailey.

Geddes bagged his consolation 10 minutes from time after a neat exchange with Jackman but it was too little too late to lift City’s Bank Holiday blues.
