THERE have been plenty of thrills and spills in the European Wheelchair Basketball Championships at the University of Worcester Arena.
Great Britain’s men, who are the defending champions, have made a mixed start to their campaign with two wins and two defeats.
They opened with a 92-42 success over the Czech Republic and lost 85-73 to Poland but bounced back to triumph 80-46 against France.
However, the GB team’s woes continued yesterday when they went down 89-55 to Germany and they face an important match against Spain tonight (7.45pm).
The GB women’s side started their programme well, thrashing Turkey 76-23 and France 79-37. They play Italy this afternoon (4.30pm).
The live streaming of the matches on the competition website clocked up 77,758 views in the first two days.
Michelle Leavesley from British Wheelchair Basketball said: “The results from the championships’ opening week demonstrate the tremendous potential sport has to influence the hearts and minds of people at a much wider scale than the physical arena itself.”
