DROITWICH Spa joint manager Wayne Oliver has warned his players not to let their excellent start to the season go to their heads.

Spa saw their six-game winning run in all competitions come to and end when they were held 1-1 at home to Austrey Rangers.

Nick Seabourne had fired them ahead in a dominant first-half but they failed to build on that after the break as Rangers levelled with ten minutes of the game left.

Oliver said: “It was an odd game. We were in complete control in the first game and deserved our lead.

“But the second half was completely different, we sat back, weren’t positive enough and pass sideways our backwards too many times.

“Before the game we had warned the players about the difference between and arro gance and confidence.

“The lads were all gutted to lose but I think this result veered towards arrogance.

“Saying that, we’ve come a long way in a short space of time and there’s no doubt that last year we’d have been very happy with a draw.”

Meanwhile, Oliver hailed the the addition of defender Scott Smith as a major signing.

Smith agreed to drop down a level and sign for the Midlands Division Two side after Spa had put in a seven-day approach.

The centre-back was playing for Division One outfit Bromsgrove Sporting but a change of job meant he was unable to play on Tuesday nights.

Oliver said: “Scott is a huge signing for us.

“He’s a very good player but couldn’t play on Tuesday nights because of a new job and I can fully understand why Paul Smith at Broms - grove may have been unable to play him.

“We learned he was avail - able, made our move and are delighted to have got him.”

Smith was on the bench for Rangers but the Droitwich management team are set to make several changes for Saturday’s Les James Challenge Cup game at Shipston Excel ior (3pm).

Upton Town’s recent bad form continued as they travelled to Cheltenham League Division One high-flyers FC Lakeside and went down 4-1.

Player-manager Si Craddock led by example and netted with a powerful header to cap off a man-of-the-match performance as Town finished strongly.

Will Radnor had Upton’s only other shot of note but he fired over from 25yards as Lakeside took the points.
