THE South Worcestershire Triples League held their annual meeting and prize presentation at Bredon Bowling Club.

The competition was formed in 1981 with just four teams and the following year grew to six.

By 1988, the league had risen to 10 teams, comprising of five clubs with an A and B team.

They are Aston Somerville, Bredon, Evesham, Overbury and Pershore.

Aston Somerville A first joined the league in 1988 and it has taken them 28 years to finally win their first league championship, winning with 26 points ahead of their nearest rivals Evesham A.

Prize presentations were made by Geoff Hinton, chairman and results co-ordinator, and Richard Woodward, secretary and treasurer.

The league winners trophy and a cheque for £125 was presented to Aston Somerville’s Brian Wilmore.

The runners-up trophy and a cheque for £75 went to Evesham’s Jim Sisson.

A new trophy and £25 for the best-placed B team was won by Overbury and collected by Barry Robinson.

The league gala day was hosted by Evesham, and Pershore A triumphed with Glyn Harris picking up the silverware.

Sisson had the runners-up trophy for Evesham A.

The league will start on Tuesday, May 3, next year.
