DROITWICH Spa women’s seconds went goal crazy with an 11-0 beating of Worcester fifths to go top of Worcestershire Hockey League Division Three.

They struck three goals in the first seven minutes through Gabriella Prendiville, Anna Weston and Lucy Hine’s effort from Rachel Cooper’s penalty-corner strike.

Cooper and Jenny Gage rounded off the scoring in the first half.

Spa cranked up the pressure with West doubling her tally through a predatory strike.

She increased her tally to five before captain Pat Hine scored her first goal of the season following a cross.

West completed the rout with her sixth goal for the league’s top scorers, who host Kings Heath Pickwick seconds on Saturday (10.30am).

Spa firsts won 10-1 against Worcester fourths in Division Two.

Caroline Siddle scored four with braces from Sue Williams, Lucy Hine and Louise Warrilow to keep the pressure on leaders Stourport fourths.

Lucy Hine scored in the first minute and then again in the first half with further goals via Williams from a penalty corner and Warrilow.

Spa bossed the second period with Mollie Cresswell pushing forward and Siddle added four strikes alongside efforts from Warrilow and Williams.

Droitwich men’s firsts lost 5-4 at Newtown in West Midlands Division One with Simon Baines (2), Craig Timmis and Alexei Payne scoring.

Spa’s displays have improved compared to earlier in the season.

They host Leamington on Saturday (1.30pm).

The men’s seconds lost 3-1 to Kings Heath Pickwick in a keenly-fought West Midlands Division Two contest.

Spa had early chances as David Purchase missed with only the keeper to beat. They defended well until an error led to a short corner that was buried by the visitors.

Spa equalised with a well-worked goal through Shaun Laight after Mitch Oakes’ effort was saved.

Kings Heath were quicker to the ball in the second half, adding two goals for the win.

Droitwich Badgers lost 4-0 to Worcester Pippins as the city side were more aggressive and positive.

Worcester opened the scoring after five minutes and Spa’s attacks broke down with George Battin having their best effort to level.

Mark Chorley performed well in goal and was backed up by tenacious tackling from George Hutchcock, Sam Radford and Isabelle Tricketts.

Worcester were reduced to 10 players but scored three goals in six minutes.
