WORCESTER Cavaliers were put to the sword in a 75-22 battering last night against Newcastle Falcons in an Aviva A-League clash at Kingston Park.

Cavaliers led 17-7 after 15 minutes but were blown away in the second half when the hosts racked up 47 unanswered points. Falcons ran in 11 tries in total.

Worcester started brightly and, after winning a penalty at the scrum, Jamie Shillcock opened the scoring with a well-struck kick.

But the hosts immediately replied with Todd Clever stepping into space before teeing up Ruki Tipuna to score under the posts as Craig Willis converted.

The Cavaliers responded with a try of their own when a cross-field kick from Shillcock fell into the hands of Dean Hammond who darted over. Shillcock added the extras.

Shillcock then set up Ravai Fatiaki to run a line under the posts, giving the fly-half another two from the tee.

Cavaliers looked to be in the ascendancy but Newcastle found another way through following a lineout.

Despite the maul being pushed back, the ball was whipped wide to Belisario Agulla who dived over in the corner and Willis converted.

With Sam Ripper-Smith in the sin-bin, Shillcock had an opportunity to add three points for the Cavaliers but couldn't split the posts.

Newcastle capitalised with Zach Kibirige finishing off a fine move after flowing build-up play from Agulla and Tipuna.

Flanker Smith returned to the field to finish off a driving maul before the interval to cut Newcastle's lead to 28-22.

The giant Joe Sproston came on for Cavaliers as they searched for a fourth, bonus-point try.

Despite winning penalty after penalty, Worcester couldn't make the pressure count and were made to pay.

Agulla crossed for his second try in the corner in the 52nd minute before Dan Temm smartly set up Richard Mayhew for another as the rout started to unfold.

Willis slotted the conversion and then on the hour mark slotted another after Tom Penny put the game to bed following some quick thinking.

After winning a penalty, Mayhew bagged his second try off the back of a lineout and Willis added another two before being replaced by Brett Connon.

Kibirige crossed with Connon converting well from the touchline.

Temm got another try, with Connon adding two more points, and Glen Young's powerful charge was rewarded with a touchdown in the last play of the game.
