STRIKER Shaun Harrad has joined Vanarama National League strugglers Torquay United until the end of the season after a goalless spell at Worcester City.

The 31-year-old, who has previously played for Burton Albion, Northampton Town, Bury and Notts County in the Football League, featured 17 times for the Blue and Whites this season.

However, his failure to hit the back of the net during those appearances saw his opportunities in the starting line-up limited as joint-manager Carl Heeley and Matt Gardiner favoured either Deon Burton and Lee Hughes up front.

Heeley has praised the attitude of Harrad who looked set to feature against Lowestoft Town on Saturday before the match was postponed due to a water-logged pitch.

However, just days after Worcester landed striker Jordan Murphy on loan from Walsall, Harrad has agreed to sign for Torquay who are seven points adrift of safety in the National League.

Despite Harrad's poor form in front of goal at City, Torquay manager Kevin Nicholson said: “One look at his scoring record and number of games he has played will tell you we have a real catch on our hands.

"We have signed a good, experienced player with a point to prove. He will be available for Tuesday's game against Welling United."

Harrad's departure also follows winger Ashley Vincent's decision to leave Worcester last week.
