FORWARD Jordan Murphy says it is important Worcester City do not give teams “space to breathe” as they aim to take a stranglehold on more games in Vanarama National League North.

Strong starts have laid the foundations to City’s last two successes as they opened up 2-0 leads inside the first 25 minutes against promotion contenders AFC Fylde and North Ferriby United.

Ten-man Fylde managed to claw their way back to 2-2 at Kellamergh Park and threatened to score the winner before Daniel Nti netted late on.

But last weekend City refused to take their foot off the gas as they had numerous chances to put Ferriby to the sword in the second half.

And Murphy insisted his side needed to replicate that offensive style in the coming weeks.

“When we are on top, we need to stay on top and we cannot give teams space to breathe,” he said.

“We have got to just attack, attack, attack, keep pushing teams back and try to kill games off.

“You need to turn the top teams over because sometimes they can come and play against a side lower down in the table and think they are going to beat them.

“But we are not a team who roll over. From what I heard, we took the fight to Fylde and we definitely took the fight to Ferriby.”

Murphy, who is on loan from League One side Walsall, missed City’s trip to Fylde due to a family funeral.

But he said the dramatic win at the fourth-placed Lancashire side had given his team-mates a “massive lift” in confidence.

“The lads came in at training absolutely buzzing,” he said. “I spoke to them all and they were telling me how well they did.

“The coaching staff just reiterated that and said we needed to replicate it against Ferriby.

“It was important to do the business again, so to get two victories on the bounce has given us a massive lift.”

Worcester will have the chance to chalk up a third successive league win when they host mid-table Alfreton Town on Saturday (3pm) and Murphy said he was keen to keep the ball rolling.

“It is another home game and it is one we definitely want to win,” he said.

“If we get three wins on the bounce, who knows where we can go from there as it will be a real confidence booster.

“Games are going to come thick and fast in February, so the quicker we get points on the board the better as we want to keep moving up the table.”
