WORCESTER women’s firsts picked up their second Midlands Hockey League Division Two win of the season with a 1-0 home triumph over fifth-placed Boots seconds.

After a 4-0 loss at Stourport seconds the previous week, Worcester went into their game with trepidation but confident they could return to their fluid style of play.

Buoyed by a larger, stronger squad, the side moved the ball around with confidence.

After missing a few chances, a quick free hit in the first half saw the returning Rachel Howells put Worcester ahead.

Now fully settled into the game, composed play throughout the team saw the lead retained into the break.

The second half saw chances for both sides but fine saves from the Boots keeper and strong defending from Worcester, especially late on, saw the score remain 1-0.

The men’s first XI continued their winning ways with a 3-0 victory at Burton in Warwick Printing League Midlands Division One.

Despite enjoying most of the first-half possession and territory, the scoreline remained 0-0 at the break, with Worcester squandering several chances.

Sam Langston was forced to leave the field after just eight minutes with an injury.

After the break, Steve Miles was granted a rare opportunity to play in the forward line.

When Burton were reduced to 10 men following a yellow card, Miles duly capitalised, scoring his second goal in two weeks to break the deadlock.

Burton were guilty of wasting valuable opportunities and James Gerrish put in a great performance in goal to ensure a clean sheet.

Player-coach Jon Sprague put the game beyond Burton with two short corners. Burton received two more penalty cards to effectively decide their fate.

Leaders Worcester fourths drew 2-2 with their fifths in an exciting West Midlands Premier Division game.

The fourths capitalised on poor defending early on to flash a shot past the post and the fifths upped their game.

After about 20 minutes, the fourths broke the deadlock with Elliot Lamond finishing off a good team move.

The fifths levelled in the second half when Dave Lewis beat three defenders before slotting home from a long corner.

They dominated the next 10 minutes and Chris Woods gave them the lead from a tight angle after a great run.

The fourths piled on the pressure and snatched a late equaliser when Jon Senior volleyed in from close range.
