THE second weekend of the 2016 Worcester County Championships at Wolverhampton Central Baths proved to be another record-breaker for Worcester.

The city club’s swimmers won 34 golds in a total medal tally of 74 across all age groups and four prestigious trophies, showing the club’s strength in depth.

With several swimmers making their county debuts in the 10-to-11-year age group, there were no signs of nerves.

Aimee Monks, Bryony Lowe and David Annis all won their first golds.

Annis, still only nine, claimed victories in a string of events, including the 50-metre backstroke, 50m butterfly, 100m backstroke and 200m backstroke.

Lowe bagged a brace of medals with first places in both the 200m and 400m freestyle, while Monks produced a strong performance to win the 100m butterfly.

Rebecca Yates and George Glover were both in excellent form in the 12-year age group.

Glover managed double gold in the breaststroke, winning both the 100m and 200m events in dominant fashion.

Yates timed her effort to perfection in the 100m butterfly to snatch glory on the touch and her first county gold.

Worcester swimmers dominated the 13-year age group with Will Gearey and Megan Annis taking numerous podiums.

Gearey was unbeaten across all his eight events, taking golds in the 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 100m butterfly, 200m breaststroke, 200m freestyle and 200m backstroke.

Annis claimed four first places in the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke and 100m individual medley.

It was a similar story in the 14-year age group with Matt Richards and Olivia Fletcher in stunning form.

Richards produced several powerful displays to win golds in the 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 100m backstroke, 200m freestyle and 200m breaststroke.

Fletcher made it double gold, taking wins in the 50m and 200m freestyle.

Charlotte Hall was a triple winner in the 15-year age category, displaying her all-round stroke ability to win the 400m individual medley in fine fashion, then adding the 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle titles to her tally.

James Marsh rounded off Worcester’s gold success in the 200m breaststroke in the 16-year-and-over section.

Worcester’s haul of junior county trophies was most impressive.

Richards won the silverware for both the 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke, while Fletcher secured her first for the 200m freestyle.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Hall landed the trophy for her 50m freestyle.

There were also 23 silver and 15 bronze medals for Worcester across different events.
