ALMOST 40 young cricketers are vying for an opportunity to be treated like a professional athlete for 12 months.

Worcester cricket coach Liam Hopkins is keen to provide one youngster “with all the tools that professional players have to allow them to be the best cricketers they can be.”

Hopkins is an ECB level two-qualified cricket coach and, by trade, a personal trainer who specialises in strength and conditioning.

The closing date for entries is on Friday.

“There have been 38 entries so far and the closing date will be on Friday,” he said.

“The shortlisting is taking place this weekend and I am looking to announce the winner next Monday.”

Hopkins is looking to find one male or female cricketer aged between 14 and 17 years who wants to improve their game.

The package will include two strength and conditioning sessions a week, coaching, access to physiotherapy and a full kit sponsorship courtesy of Pryzm Cricket.

Hopkins is the director of youth cricket at Worcester Dominies and Guild Cricket Club and is doing an internship with Worcestershire County Cricket Club’s strength and conditioning coach Ross Dewar.
