PREVIOUS match runner-up Alan Baldwin went one better to win the Warren open on the match lake at Staunton Court with an excellent bag of bream and skimmers.

Drawn on the high bank, the Phoenix star started with small skimmers at 11 metres with maggot bait.

But, when bites slowed, he changed to a shorter pre-fed pellet line to net half a dozen bream to 2lbs and smaller samples, winning over four hours with 27lb 2oz 0dr.

Second was Alf Hand with around 100 small pellet and maggot-caught skimmers going 19-15.

Third placed Richard Blight included a couple of good fish in his caster-taken 18-12, while fourth came Malvern’s Mick Cooper with 15-12.

Consistent Dave Anderson came out on top of the Droitwich Spa AC match at Porters Mill with a superb winter canal weight of 14-7.

On the concrete near the top lock, Anderson offered maggot and pinkie baits to net skimmers, perch and roach.

Some way behind came Mick Price, who took big perch and skimmers from the roadside peg 19 going 4-10-4.

Third was Paul Wilson’s 4-4-3 net of small roach and perch, while fourth went to Robin Senter with 3-3 from the same section as the winner.

Section winners were Chris Ballard, Kevin Downton and Colin Davis.

Tewkesbury’s Mike Higginbotham narrowly won a WDUAA contest on a heavily-coloured canal at Flag Meadow.

He put one big hybrid along with a perch over 1lb and a few good roach onto the scales from peg six weighing 4-15.

Greenman’s Richard Brewer took second with a mainly all-perch net of 4-8-6 and in third spot came Les Sanders with 2-5 of worm-caught perch.

Former Alans Tackle captain Tony Witcher won the Sunday open on Woodland View’s Hay pool with carp and silvers on a maggot feeder set-up from peg 13 going 61-8.

Another ex-Alans man, Rob Wilson, came second with 28-7, while in third was Ian Hickman weighing 27-4.

A maggot and worm match for Evesham WMC’s Red Feathers cup was won by Stuart Robinson near the island.

He caught carp and F1s for 34-8 and Gareth Beck had F1s and a few carp for 19-14.

Mick Brooks had 18-12, while section winners were Rick Huxley (11-13) and Mark Sparrow (13-0).
