WORCESTER Warriors director of rugby Dean Ryan is urging fans to get behind the players in Saturday’s Aviva Premiership home clash against Bath (3pm).

Warriors have lost their last 12 matches in all competitions and supporters are planning a novel way to show their allegiance.

Supporters have been discussing ideas on social media this week and Chris Cashmore wants fans to cheer and applaud the players in the 12th minute of the match at Sixways.

Warriors are 10th in the table and face a relegation scrap with London Irish, to whom they lost 20-13 last Sunday, and Newcastle Falcons.

Ryan says he want supporters to get behind the side for the full 80 minutes.

“Until last weekend, I don’t think we lacked a willingness to show how much we care about moving this forward,” said Ryan.

“It’s important for people to get behind the rugby club when times are tough and it’s same for the team this weekend.”

Warriors crashed to a desperately disappointing 20-13 reverse at London Irish last Sunday.

“I don’t think this group has lacked intensity or lacked endeavour or willingness to show everyone how much we care as a group,” said Ryan, who remains puzzled by his side’s woeful first-half showing.

However, Ryan praised the efforts to tough-tackling back rower Phil Dowson, skipper Gerrit-Jan van Velze and South African centre Wynand Olivier.

“I thought Phil and GJ (van Velze) were outstanding,” said Ryan.

“Wynand was outstanding on edges to try to keep us in the game and sometimes it can be difficult to put your finger on what the catalyst was for the poor performance.

“We lost the contest at the breakdown and that was an area we thought we would win.

“We have had to be harsh with the review of our performance.”

After facing Bath this weekend, Warriors return to Sixways next Saturday to take on Sale Sharks (3pm) before travelling to Northampton Saints on February 27 (2.45pm).

Warriors’ defeat against Irish was their 32nd loss from their last 33 Premiership away games.

But Ryan said: “There’s still opportunities on the road and we will have to take something on the road to get some momentum back.

"We have got six matches remaining at home and five away and we have to get momentum back. I would always settle for a result over performance.”
