THE Vale seniors’ section met at the Bishampton course for an 18-hole individual stableford.

Fifty-nine players completed their rounds in dry weather but a strengthening wind and heavy underfoot conditions made scoring difficult.

Some fine golf was still played and the highlight was Gerry Clayton’s eagle on the 356-yard, par-four 17th hole.

Clive Gilbert won Division One with 35 points ahead of Jim Rushworth (34), Rob Sharp (33) and Erle Andrews (33).

The Division Two honours went to Mike Roberts (37) followed by Mike Hird (31), Bob Evans (31) and Tony Perryman (30).

Larry Taylor (33) claimed Division Three in front of Keith Watson, Brian Bunn and John McKeon, who all scored 32.

During the 2016 season, The Vale seniors will again host a series of four open competitions following the successful events of previous years.

For the men, there will be pairs opens on April 20 and July 27, along with an am-am open on June 8.

There is also a mixed pairs open on September 7.

Full details and entry forms can be found in the seniors section at thevalegolf.co.uk or golfempire.co.uk n Broadway’s ladies had a mixed bag of weather to contend with in their nine-hole stableford.

Gusty winds made play tricky and a brief sleet storm left putting an extreme challenge.

Once things had calmed down, the 40 ladies enjoyed the contest and the clear winner on the day was Pat Green with 20 points.

Juliet Enderby was second with 16, leaving Louise Foulkes in third position on count-back.
