THE first Ravenmeadow medal on the new combined 18-hole course with Perdiswell Park saw seniors’ captain Jan Schutte win after shooting 71 nett.

Twenty-handicapper Schutte’s back nine of 33 took him to victory on count-back.

John White (14 handicap) finished level with seven pars but his back nine of 36 cost him.

One shot behind, Martin Hucker (17) took third after a birdie three and five double bogies.

Doug Allen (20) came home fourth with 73 after hitting six double bogies.

Fourteen players took the medal challenge in sunny conditions with brisk winds swirling around the course, particularly on the more exposed holes.

What started out as a bright day turned pretty foul as the Doug Bush Trophy competition played out.

By far the best player in the conditions was junior Leighton Hine, who shot 62 nett playing of his new handicap of 22.

Hine, who has only been playing golf for 12 months, carded eight pars but three double bogies and a triple spoiled his round.

Steve Baylis (10) was second with 69 after returning eight pars and one birdie in a round marred only by two double bogies.

Barrie Hope (8) came home third after shooting 71, which included seven pars, one birdie and one double bogey.

Steve Griffiths took fourth place when he brought in 72.

The event was a seniors’ challenge and Griffiths won as the highest-placed golfer eligible.

Thirty players contested the trophy with 27 making it home with a completed scorecard.

Thirty-four players took to the course in the first round of the seven-round summer league.

The best five cards over the seven rounds amass the final score.

Simeon Chapman (14) took the first round with 64 nett after a steady round comprising nine pars and nine bogies. His handicap was cut to 12.

Scott Thomas (17) shot a fine round of 65 to come home in second place after dropping in five pars and two birdies.

But two double bogies and one triple effectively put an end to his challenge for the win. Steve Williams (6) returned 67 to take third having recorded 10 pars, two birdies and six bogies.

Ed Nicklin (17) finished fourth with 68 after three double bogies and only took the place on count-back after posting a homeward nine of 37.

Perdiswell Park’s first seniors match of the season on their new home turf resulted in a 5-2 win over Burlish Park.

Phil Lane and John Wilkinson won 3&2, Steve Griffiths and Steve Duggan 4&3, Adrian Burbridge and Peter Brown 4&3, Ed Nicklin and George Postans 3&2 and Mick Huggins and Bill Kelly one-up.

Roger Jones and Ron Law lost 1&3 and Ron Jones and Malcolm Stanley 2&3.

Meanwhile, more than 200 members took part in the April weekend medal competition at Worcester Golf and Country Club but tricky weather conditions made good scores hard to come by.

Chris Lloyd (72 gross 6 handicap 66 nett) led the way in Division One closely followed by Simon Fletcher, who recorded 71-4-67.

Trevor Woodward, who recently joined the club, has settled in quickly and finished in third spot with 77-9-68.

The consistent Richard Plews (72-3-69) was fourth and Woodward’s son Ben came in with 73-3-70 to take fifth position.

Division Two players struggled to break par as only Jim Whitehouse (79-11-68) achieved the feat.

Paul Griffin was runner-up with 82-12-70 and Alan Courtney (83-13-70) third on count-back.

Ian Vass (85-15-70) was fourth on count-back ahead of six players on the same nett score.

Robin Mayo (89-17-72) took the honours in Division Three, one shot ahead of Tony Hudson (93-20-73).

Martin Willmott finished third on count-back with 91-18-73.

Count-back sorted out the final prize spots with Greg Edwards (99-25-74) just pushing out Colin Francis (90-16-74).

Meanwhile, Amber Hadden won her first junior section medal when she recorded 97-33-64.

James Lloyd [75-8-67] was runner-up, two shots ahead of Tom Warner (76-7-69).

Jacob Hamer kept up his good form to finish fourth with 78-9-69.

Seven of the top eight placed in the medal play off single-figure handicaps.

Rob Blake and Roy Burston won Bransford seniors’ winter pairs championship.

Playing off 14 and 12 respectively, they beat John Phillips (22 handicap) and Roy Williams (20) 3&2, clinching the final on the 16th hole.

Forty-one players competed in the Mayor’s Chalice as Neil Sheldon (21) won a close affair.

He scored 36 points to finish one ahead of Mike Kenway (30) on 35.

Adrian Wood (24), Alan Wallcroft (22) and Phillips (22) managed 34, and Mike Holmes (28), Gerry Rebbeck (15), June Atkinson (20), Martin Saunders (23) and Roy Williams (20) 33, Roger Steade (25) 32 and Rob Wetton (22) 31.

The first leg of the summer stableford league was hit by heavy overnight rain.

A nine-hole stableford was contested instead with Bob McGrath and Ted Buckett scoring 21 in Division One and Rebbeck 18.

In Division Two, Andrew Jarvis managed 21 and Phillips and John Knowles 16. Division Three saw Bob Mathews score 22, Phil Spencer 20 and Adrian Wood 18.

Bransford’s 17-24 Handicap League team won their opening fixture at home to Bromsgrove, who had denied them the title last season.

Neil Pask and Louie Turner were clear winners in the opening match 43-33.

Steve Freeman-Taylor and Lee Tally won one-up, while Rob Turner and Graham Barnett drew.

Kev Fitzgerald and Derek Lockett played solidly to allow Bransford to notch up their first win 117-111 against the holders.

The Vale seniors played a three-ball team match.

Mick Lewis, Mick Heard and Adrian Duggan scored 46 points to beat Rob Sharp, John Milward and Eric Salter (45) and Derek Lambert, Norman Cannock and Brian Bunn (44).

Seventy-two seniors played in the first of the five-round eclectic competition.

Division One went to Clive Gilbert with 71 nett followed by Ed Mountney (72), Nic Fielden (72) and Sharp (75).

Lambert claimed Division Two with 71 in front of Chris Enticknap (72), John Milward (74) and Brian Evans (75).

Martin Holland won Division Three on 70 ahead of Ian Haywood (71), Geoff Browne (73) and Larry Taylor (74).
