WORCESTER Wanderers’ under 16s are celebrating after their players were selected for representative honours.

Centre Ollie Lawrence scored two tries and was player of the match for England under 16s against Wales in Ystrad Mynach in a 23-22 loss.

His father Mike said: “We are incredibly proud of Oliver and his selection made all the effort we have put in as a family, with all the miles of travelling and late nights, worthwhile.”

Lawrence, also a full-back, only joined Wanderers this season after playing most of his rugby for Old Swinford Hospital School in Stourbridge.

Team manager Ady Bullett said: “We are all delighted for Ollie and his family.

“He is an obvious talent and has developed significantly since he has been with us, although he was pretty good to start with.

“We all hope he can push on from here to more representative honours.

“All the under 16s coaching team look forward to getting some free tickets for Twickenham when he eventually makes the England first team.”

Wanderers’ Ben Poole-Phillips played for Welsh Academicals against Italy under 17s and two Scotland trial teams. He was a travelling reserve for the Welsh game against England.

Another Wanderers’ under 16s player, Owien Harriott-Davis, was called up to Worcester Warriors’ under 17s squad.

Harriott-Davis, who has been with Wanderers since the under sevens, was chasing an England place but had to leave in the middle of the selection process for a school trip to Germany.

Bullett said of the players: “We find it amazing how grounded the boys are and how they give as much effort for our team as for anyone.”
