THE Clifton-on-Teme Point-to-Point takes place at Upper Sapey, near Bromyard on Sunday, starting at 2pm.

The initiative of running their AGA-sponsored Mixed Open Race over three miles and six furlongs has been rewarded with an entry of 17 for the feature race.

The race should play to Horsham Lad’s strengths. He has more things in his favour that most of the other runners.

Connies Cross could win the race at his best but his current form figures are poor.

Ice Cool Benny comes from Martin Weston’s in-form yard at Hindlip and he will be keen to extend his lead in the trainers’ championship.

Take Over Sivola does not have much form to recommend him but Jane Allfrey obviously has faith in his ability and that may reap its reward if his supporters are willing to take a chance.

Nobby Kivambo has struggled to find his form after a spell on the sidelines.

Kilmacallogue Bay finished with a flourish at the Croome and a repeat performance would see him go close, while Petit Lord and Lucy Turner could also figure in the finish.

With six weeks of the season remaining the destination of most of the area championships have still to be decided. But Leo Mahon holds a healthy lead over his rivals in the race for the jockeys’ title and his position at the top of the table could be consolidated in the A J Mucklow-sponsored Intermediate.

Sir Ollar’s form is such that this should be a penalty kick for Mahon’s mount, although Carrig Dubh may be a fly in the ointment.

The meeting opens with the Ilma Froggatt Memorial Conditions race (2pm).

It is an open-looking contest and it is impossible to split Flying Gnu, Hazy Tom, Noakarad de Verzee and Royal Riviera.

The two-mile four-furlong GGR Communications/Jockey Club Maiden for Mares and Fillies has attracted 19 entries and one to catch the eye here is Singininthevalleys, who finished second at Barbury.

Twilight Fox hails from Jane Williams stable at Enville and their runners always have to be feared, while Following Mama and Floras Furlong are both capable of better things.

The latter also holds a strong engagement in the Andrew Grant three-mile Maiden.
