SAM Minihan says it “means the world” to be recognised by his teammates after achieving a double dose of success at Worcester City's end-of-season awards.

The full-back was named Players’ Player and Young Player of the Season after City's 2-2 draw against AFC Fylde at Aggborough on Saturday.

It rounds off a superb debut campaign for Minihan who has made 44 appearances since joining the Vanarama National League North side from Loughborough University last summer.

“I am absolutely made up as it is such a lovely gesture, especially the players’ player award,” the 22-year-old said.

“For the players to hold you in such high regard, it means the world to me and it’s great to get the young player award as well.

“It has been a great season, but more importantly to play with these lads week in week out has been an absolute delight and I am just so grateful for these awards.”

Centre back Alex Gudger was crowned Sponsors’ Player of the Season while Supporters’ Player of the Season went to striker Lee Hughes after scoring 18 goals in 34 games.

City boss Carl Heeley handed the Manager’s Player of the Season title to defender Tom Sharpe.

“I am not a fan of this award as you can make a case for every single player,” Heeley said.

“But Tom is one of those quiet lads who does his job every week and does not get the recognition he deserves.

“You can rely on him, he will put himself on the line and he will even play through injury.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Connor Gater beat eight other nominees to win Goal of the Season after his stunning long-range strike at Corby Town in September.
