FORMER Lion Black team angler Dennis Evans won his first Droitwich Spa AC contest since November when the club visited the Whitford Bridge section of the Worcester to Birmingham canal.

Starting with bread punch three quarters across the canal, Evans took a few skimmers before changing to pinkie bait for small perch, finishing with 4lb 4oz 0dr.

Pete Chance used a similar approach for a 3-2 catch and John Moloney was third with an all-perch, maggot-caught 2-3-5. A Spa contest is on May 15 on the Staffs/Worcs canal at Stewponey.

Swan AC’s Harry Harrison won the Droitwich canal open on the sports centre section with 4-14 from the noted bush peg.

After taking mainly rudd and small perch from across the canal, Harrison netted a late 1lb-plus chub from the centre channel.

Ex-Worcester national star Les Sanders was second with a skimmer, bream and rudd catch of 3-4-12 to bread punch, while third came Chris Turner with 2-11-4 of perch.
