PRESSURE has been growing on the leaders in the Worcester Badminton League with the season ending on Thursday.

Santi Rajaraman advanced to second in Division One, shortening Monirul Islam’s lead to four points.

Rajaraman beat Sinoj Sebastian 2-1 and Dean Hardie 3-0, but lost 3-0 to Islam and 2-1 to Steve Turberfield.

Islam also beat Oli Shier 3-0 with the latter short of fitness after illness.

Chris Alexander moved up to third with 3-0 wins over Neil Darwell and Jeremy Swift, and a 2-1 defeat to Turberfield.

Kashif Ali moved to three points behind Ganesh Pillai at the top of Division Two.

Ali lost 3-0 to both Przemek Iwachow and Hassan Javed but then managed 3-0 wins over John Fastiszewski and Tim Westwood, who pulled his hamstring in the third point of the match.

Javed is third, having also beaten Maria Harrison 3-0.

In Division Five, Laura Leach climbed into second place with a 3-0 win over Raes Mehmood.

Islam slashed Ganesh Pillai’s lead at the top of the Superleague to four points, helped by beating Iwachow 3-0 and Pillai 2-1.

Rajaraman remains third.
