WORCESTER City Amateur Boxing Club enjoyed a successful trip to the Lympstone ABC show at Exmouth, coming away with three wins out of four.

First up was national junior semi-finalist Owen Cooper, who faced Tawos Abdullah from the highly-regarded Finchley ABC gym.

Cooper had the experience over the raw Abdullah but took his time to find his rhythm against a useful but awkward novice.

After a close opening round, Cooper went to work with fast combinations with both fists.

The Finchley boxer tried his hardest to keep pace with Cooper but had to resort to holding to neutralise the aggressive Worcester boxer.

Cooper’s class shone through and, after a tough work-out, he was awarded with a unanimous points victory to bring to a close a successful season.

Next up was junior welterweight George Butler against Callum Mansell, also from Finchley.

Butler was determined to power his way to victory and he did not disappoint.

Against the taller opponent, he stayed on the front foot throughout.

Butler kept the pressure on with hard rights and fast left hooks against the straight-punching Mansell. On the day Butler turned 16, he was awarded the bout by way of a split decision.

Light middleweight Grant Attwood entered the ring at his heaviest weight so far at 72kg to outpoint Teaken Prior, of Chard ABC.

A tense contest saw stand-off periods with neither prepared to commit. When Attwood went forward, he looked good, mixing fast combinations with point-scoring solid jabs.

Attwood countered well against a strong and durable fighter.

The sharper boxing coming from the Worcester boxer during these exchanges was the telling factor.

At the final bell, Attwood got the vote from all three judges to claim a unanimous victory.

Lightweight Ameen Khan stepped up in class against Jacob Croot, of Downend ABC.

Croot had boxed in an England vest before and his ring-craft made the difference on the night.

Khan struggled at times to find his rhythm, leaving his opponent to capitalise with his aggressive hard-hitting approach.

The Worcester boxer had minor success with the jab but could not deny Croot, who was a worthy winner on points.
