WORCESTER Bears starlet Max Matthews will be heading to the USA next month for a basketball camp at Oak Hill elite academy in Virginia.

The 12-year-old is attending the under-13s regional performance centre training and on the right path towards representing England in the future.

Max, who is from Ashton Under Hill and captains the Bredon Hill Middle School team, will be joined by 11-year-old Tyrese Lacey from Birmingham who is also a West Midlands regional representative.

The pair are due to fly out to the USA with Max’s family and will also be preparing for the under-14s basketball regional finals in July.

Max’s dad, Anthony, is a volunteer coach at Worcester Bears while his wife Amba is a volunteer manager of the Worcester Bears Under-14s National League team.

Along with volunteer coach Marc Lacey from City of Birmingham club, the Matthews family are raising funds to make the USA trip possible.
