WORCESTER amateur golfer Stephen Protherough has won the Listers Audi Invitational at the Warwickshire Golf Club.

The one-day qualifying Stableford competition, supported by Audi Centres in Birmingham, Coventry, Stratford and Worcester, was one of almost 40 Audi quattro Cup Invitational events staged throughout the UK.

The top qualifiers from this event will now pair up in a regional final at The Belfry Golf Club on Tuesday, July 26.

Seven regional finals are now held in July with the top 18 pairs going forward to the Audi quattro Cup UK Final at Bowood Golf & Country Club, Wiltshire, in September.

Two pairs will eventually represent Great Britain in the Audi quattro Cup World Final at the Real Club de Golf El Prat in Barcelona, Spain, in October.

n Robert Brookes came out on top as 29 players contested Ravenmeadow & Perdiswell Park Golf Club’s men’s EGU.

Brooke finished four shots clear of his nearest rival after carding 10 pars and two birdies, on the ninth and the 17th, to come in with a superb nett 61.

Closer inspection of Brookes’ impressive card showed just one double bogey on the par four 12th, but that one minor setback did not deter the in-form player of the day from running away with the prize.

He got himself back on track to finish par, par, birdie, par. Brookes’ handicap was reduced to 11 following his win.

Meanwhile, junior golfer Harrison Leaver shot a magnificent nett 65 to finish second.

Leaver, off a handicap of 17, got off to a great start when he parred the first five holes and dropped in another two on the way out to finish the first nine with an awesome nett 28.

A less consistent back-nine holes with just one more par must have felt disappointing to the youngster even though he still shot a homeward nett 37, coming up just short at the finish but still well clear of his closest chaser.

Richard Adcock took third place on countback after returning nett 68.

Seven pars set things up nicely for Adcock but two double bogies and two more triples spoiled a decent card, but Adcock held on to third place after shooting nett 37 on the back nine and pushed David Phillips into fourth Phillips carded seven pars and a birdie on the sixth but his outward nett 30 was negated by a less convincing return to home when a double bogey on the 10th and a triple on the 15th proved damaging when countback was required.

Result: 1 Robert Brookes (13) nett 61, 2 Harrison Leaver (17) nett 65, 3 Richard Adcock (18) nett 68.
