WORCESTER Hockey Club are looking to recruit newcomers for their women’s section.

They have more than 500 members, boasting eight men’s, four women’s, three badgers and various junior teams, providing for all ages and skills.

To encourage new players, Worcester will run training sessions over six weeks, starting from next Thursday at the University of Worcester’s St John’s Campus.

They are aimed at women coming back to hockey and newcomers to the area who want to touch base with their local club.

It will be run in conjunction with this year’s England Hockey Back to Hockey (B2H) Campaign.

Each year, England Hockey launch the campaign to invite players along to sessions run by local clubs.

They mix in skills exercises with small-sided games.

Worcester’s emphasis on the sessions is to welcome new members into a friendly, relaxed environment.

A club spokesman said: “We take pride in promoting hockey for all. We have great links with the university and local schools but really need to boost our adult women numbers to keep us progressing forward.”

The sessions run from 7.30pm until 9pm with further dates on June 27 and July 7, 11, 21 and 25.

There will be a charge of £2 per person per session.

It is hoped a further six-week period will run from September.

Worcester also need more qualified coaches at level one or above.
