OLD Elizabethans face a “season-defining” clash against lowly Penkridge tomorrow in Birmingham League Division Two (noon), according to vice-captain Liam Booth.

After a disappointing start to the campaign, the Worcester club have recorded two wins in their last three games to suggest they have not given up on their promotion hopes.

Their latest triumph came last week when they recovered from a below-par batting display to see off Oswestry by 14 runs.

Seventh-placed OEs now have the chance to secure back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

And Booth says it is important they come away from second-from-bottom Penkridge victorious.

“It looks like we have reached a bit of a crossroads in our season this weekend and the result could go some way to deciding where we finish this year,” he said.

“If we win, it could be the difference between going on a promotion push or nervously looking over our shoulders, so it’s a big game."

OEs have been boosted by the return of Elliot Hennessy and wicketkeeper John Major, who has been unavailable for the last two weeks.

But promising bowler Matt Davis has dropped down to the thirds as he recovers from an ankle injury.

Meanwhile, Ombersley will aim to consolidate their position at the top of the Premier Division at Barnt Green (noon).

A four-wicket success over former front-runners Berkswell saw Ombersley return to the summit with Oliver Uffindall recording season-best figures of 6-41.

He will hope to continue his form along with batsman Uday Kaul, who scored 70 off 90 balls to steer his side to victory last weekend.

But Ombersley will need to be on their guard against sixth-placed Green, who will be determined to bounce back after scoring just 101 in their eight-wicket hammering at Kidderminster.

Chairman Tim Oakley said: “It is great to be back at the top.

“In my opinion, Berkswell are the best team in the league, so to beat them with depleted ranks was great.

“Barnt Green are a good side who are almost back to full-strength, so I am expecting a tough match.”

Two Worcestershire sides will also meet in Division One with Bromsgrove hosting Barnards Green in what is likely to be a close encounter.

The Malvern visitors hold just a two-point advantage over their rivals who have closed the gap after two successive winning draws.

Elsewhere, high-fliers Pershore will be keen to regain top spot in Division Three when they host Eastnor after losing at home to Fordhouses.
