THERE appears to be no stopping talented Worcester golfer Lauren Sharp after an impressive start to the season.

The 12-year-old secured the best nett score at the Gaudet Luce junior open in Hadzor and is determined to add to her trophy cabinet in 2016.

Since picking up a golf club for the first time aged four, Sharp has gone from having beginner lessons on a mat to tackling 18-hole courses.

The Nunnery Wood High School pupil became a member of Gaudet Luce three years ago and works with coach Russell Adams.

This move has paid dividends as she clinched the Classic Blinds Trophy, Tony Sargent Trophy, Droitwich Pairs Trophy and was awarded most improved junior in her first season.

After defending her Classic Blinds title, Sharp went on to have another strong campaign, getting best nett at the Kidderminster Girls’ Open, Bewdley Pines Open and Peter Skidmore Trophy as well as winning the West Midlands Junior League final.

The former Cherry Orchard Primary School pupil has continued her form into 2016 with success at the Thornbury Open and Gaudet Luce.

Sharp’s handicap has also been cut from 36 to 17 and her mother Mandy says she has now set her sights on earning a place in the England team.

“After she played a few nine-hole competitions her handicap came down so much she needed to start playing 18 holes,” she said.

“That’s when she started playing properly and she has gone from strength to strength since then.

“Her coach said she strikes the ball well and she has got great potential, so we are trying to do what we can to get her handicap down further.

“She would love to play for England one day and is hoping to work her way up through the county to then get into the first team.”

Sharp is also a member at The Worcestershire, Malvern Wells, and Worcester Golf and Country Club.
