SKIPPER Daryl Mitchell admits Worcestershire are expecting a backlash against Leicestershire tomorrow in Specsavers County Championship Division Two (11am).

The County shot out Leicestershire for just 43 in their second innings when the sides met at Grace Road in May as Worcestershire wrapped up a seven-wicket success.

That triumph is Worcestershire’s only win so far in the four-day format and the teams will battle it out in a crucial match at New Road.

“Leicestershire have done well this season but we beat them at Grace Road and I am sure they will be coming down looking for revenge,” said Mitchell (pictured).

“When you bowl a team out for 43 you are always going to win but I am sure this will be a very competitive affair.

“We have won only once in the County Championship but I think we have played some very good cricket at times.”

Worcestershire are fifth in the table, 13 points behind fourth-placed Leicestershire and 23 adrift of table-topping Kent.

Worcestershire’s last championship outing was against the leaders and they produced a rearguard display to salvage a draw.

Worcestershire will be bolstered by the inclusion of South African paceman Kyle Abbott, while Tom Fell retains his place in the squad.

“It’s still very tight in the table and the leading teams have only won two matches so it’s all to play for,” said Mitchell.

“A team would normally need seven or eight wins to get promotion but this season it might be more like four or five wins.”
