WORCESTER’S Pitmaston Primary School’s Year 5 team completed a cricket double inside a week.

The pupils from the St John’s school won the Worcester City and Droitwich district tournament at Old Elizabethans, which had been rearranged due to rain, and claimed the county finals at New Road four days later.

Pitmaston lost their first match at OEs but then put together three outstanding performances.

The tournament saw three teams tied on points so it went down to runs scored.

Pitmaston went all out in their final game, hitting fours and sixes. They smashed 92 off 32 balls against St Barnabas Primary to win the tournament by eight runs.

Pitmaston represented the district at the county finals at Worcestershire’s headquarters.

They shone in the qualifying group and clinched a final against Redditch champions Birchensale Middle.

Birchensale scored 30 batting first but then took plenty of wickets. However, Pitmaston’s 59-5 left them with a nett score of 34 to be crowned county champions by four runs.
