OLD Vigornians continued their winning form with a hard-fought four-wicket win against Kempsey to move up to second in Worcestershire Cricket League Division Three.

Having opted to field first, the Worcester side were put on the back foot with Kempsey flying to 130-3 after 30 overs.

Sam O’Neill led the way with 84 assisted by Chris Jones (40) and Zak O’Neill (24).

As Kempsey looked to kick on, their innings faltered thanks to George Painter’s career-best 5-14, including the prize wicket of Sam O’Neill.

Kempsey finished on 227 all out as Charlie Lamb took 3-37.

OVs began their chase well with Osman Fiaz (51) and Chris Drew (38) laying the foundations.

A tight spell from bowler Stephen Emson (1-22 from 10 overs) kept Kempsey in contention.

But a strong partnership between Painter (51) and Ben O’Hickey (32 not out) looked to have led OVs home.

A six from Lamb (9no) saw OVs home with an over-and-a-half to spare.

The seconds won by three wickets in the reverse fixture at Kempsey in Division Three thanks to Alex Barnes’ first half-century for the club and a fine spell from Nick Watson.

Kempsey made 211 all out after batting first with Ifran Kayani scoring 61 and Watson taking 4-21.

Aidan Thompson scored 51 and Barnes 61 as OVs made it home.
