ALL-ROUNDER Brett D'Oliveira has signed a new three-year contract with Worcestershire.

D'Oliveira, who made his England Lions debut earlier this week, has put pen to paper on a deal which will take him through until the end of the 2019 season.

The 22-year-old, who had signed a three-year contract at the tail-end of last season, is Worcestershire's leading scorer in the Specsavers County Championship with 690 runs at an average of nearly 50 after being converted successfully into an opener.

He also finished as the County's top run-getter in the NatWest T20 Blast and in addition is a developing leg-spinner and a brilliant fielder.

D'Oliveira featured in the final two Lions matches of the Tri-Series with Pakistan 'A' and Sri Lanka 'A'.

He has followed a possee of Worcestershire players in committing to the club on three or four year contracts.

Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes said: "Brett has had a fantastic season so far.

"We are delighted with the progress he is making, he has got into the Lions squad which is a credit to himself, and the club wanted to reward him with a longer deal.

"It is so pleasing to know that he is a Worcestershire player for the next three years. You want to try and keep hold of our best players, and he is certainly one of our best players now.

"We wanted him to stay and he wants to stay so it was a nice situation to sign him for longer. He has three strings to his bow and is also a very useful leg spinner and a tremendous fielder as well.

"Dolly is also a player who sees progress in the club and wants to be part of the journey like the other lads who have signed long deals."

D'Oliveira broke into the Championship side on a regular basis 12 months ago - and has not looked back.

He said: "This is a week you dream off, with the Lions debut and now the new contract. The last 12 months have gone well. You don't expect to have such a breakthrough year like this.

"I was expecting to do better than in previous years and I'm delighted with how well it has gone and hopefully I can keep it up for the three years of this new contract.

"It has been quite a decent season for myself and it has been nice that the club and Bumpy have recognised that and rewarded with me with the new contract.

"A lot of lads have signed long term contracts and are loyal to the club and it means we can keep this group of players together, develop and hopefully go onto win the trophies that we all want."
