WORCESTERSHIRE'S Naomi Folkard survived a one-arrow shoot-out to advance to the second round of the women's archery competition in Rio.

Great Britain competitor Folkard looked to be cruising to victory when she won the opening two sets and produced a perfect 10 with her final arrow in the third to match Indonesian opponent Ika Rochmawati's score of 29.

However, Rochmawati won the next two sets to level the match score at 5-5 and force a shoot-out with each competitor given just one arrow to keep their Olympic dream alive.

Rochmawati was first to shoot and could only manage a seven, leaving 32-year-old Folkard from Kidderminster to fire a nine and seal a nerve-wracking win.

There was no need for such drama in the next round 20 minutes later with Folkard romping to a 6-0 win over Japan's Kaori Kawanaka at the Sambodromo.

Kawanaka started with a 10 but inexplicably managed only three with her next arrow and the relentlessly accurate Folkard produced three 10s, five nines and an eight from her nine attempts.

Folkard will face Brazil's Ane Santos in the last 16 on Thursday after Santos enjoyed 7-3 and 6-0 wins in her first two matches.
