FORMER champion Chris Alexander leads Division One of the Worcester Badminton League singles. 

He managed 3-0 wins against the three promoted players Hassan Javed, Stu Taylor and Neil Darwell, plus a 2-1 victory over Santi Rajaraman.

Oli Shier follows close behind, having defeated Alexander, Rajaraman, Steve Turberfield and last season’s winner Ganesh Pillai each 3-0.

Turberfield is third, having beaten Alexander 2-1 and Rajaraman and Taylor both 3-0.

Jeremy Swift is top of Division Two after beating Craig Burns.

Swift lost 3-0 to second-placed Alex Howard and 2-1 to Kashif Ali, who lies third.

Junior county players Luke and Matthew Robinson continue their progress through the divisions.

Luke is first in Division Three after defeating Laura Leach and Steve Wilson 3-0.

Matthew beat his brother 2-1 in revenge for their match last season which he lost by the same score. He is third, having also beaten Leach.

Maria Harrison is second. She beat Tom Read 3-0 but lost 2-1 to Steve Wilson and Beth Brown and 3-0 to Leach.

In Division Four, Robert Appleby beat Neil Harding 3-0 to go top. Harding is second due to his 2-1 defeat of Trina Hinton.

Alexander is in first place in the Superleague followed by Shier.

Luke Robinson defeated Monirul Islam 3-0 to occupy third place.

Islam also played Matthew Robinson, beating him 2-1.

This was the first time Luke or Matthew had lost to someone other than each other.

The league welcomes players of all standards.
