STOURBRIDGE’S Paul Sharratt had a double celebration at the Worcester and District Chess League’s annual meeting.

Sharratt captained his team to the Division Two championship, finishing four points clear of second-placed Kidderminster Pawns.

He also picked up an individual trophy at St Stephen’s Church Hall, Barbourne, for his win in the Ball Cup.

Malvern were the league champions after finishing four points clear of Worcester City on beating them in the last match of the season in the competition.

Lee Davis won the Bennett Cup for the best individual player in the league.

The Malvern player’s win was notable because this was the second time he had won the cup but the last was 34 years ago.

Senior officers were re-elected with Maurice Bissell president and Andrew Farthing honorary secretary.
