WORCESTER Canoe Club host one of the country’s biggest marathon events on Sunday on the River Severn.

The National Hasler final, part of the British Canoeing Event Series, will be held from their Grandstand Road base.

The Hasler Trophy is the National Team League Championships for marathon canoeing.

Clubs compete within their regions through the season to win the right to race at the final.

Each year, hundreds paddle during one day of intense long-distance racing with competitors and clubs from around Great Britain going for first place.

The Gailey club from Staffordshire are co-hosting the event in Worcester.

A Worcester spokesman said: “We are proud to be presenting such a prestigious event as the Hasler final and look forward to welcoming visitors from all over the country here on Sunday.”

The festival is free to spectators with lots going on.

The Go Canoeing team will encourage spectators of all ages to get on the kayak machines and take on the challenge.

British Canoeing’s team will be there, allowing visitors to sign up or renew their membership as well as find out the latest information.
