THE King’s School Worcester were crowned Worcestershire under 18s hockey champions after finishing runners-up last year.
With injury and illness hitting the team, it was always going to be a tough challenge to win and qualify for the Midlands competition.
The first game against Malvern College set the tone as a close encounter ended 0-0 despite plenty of chances.
The second clash against Bromsgrove School was a much cagier affair and another goalless draw left the tournament wide open.
Going into their penultimate fixture against local rivals Royal Grammar School Worcester, the team relaxed and won 3-0 with Amalie Coleman opening the scoring on three minutes.
Amelia Kite scored the only goal against Malvern St James and, after an anxious wait, King’s claimed the county title.
