OLI Shier overtook Chris Alexander to win Worcester Badminton League Division One.

He defeated past champion Monirul Islam 2-1 to draw level with Alexander and then beat Hassan Javed 3-0 to clinch the season five title.

Shier, who hails from Guernsey, joined the league in February and has suffered just one loss so far against Islam in season three.

He plays badminton for the Pitmaston club and tennis for Droitwich.

Steve Turberfield finished behind Alexander in third, having also beaten Javed 3-0.

Javed was the only promoted player to avoid an immediate return to Division Two.

Wins over also-promoted Stu Taylor and Neil Darwell helped him finish a few points clear.

Taylor and Darwell went down along with last season’s champion Ganesh Pillai.

Jeremy Swift and Sinoj Sebastian will be back in Division One next season along with newcomer Carl Fordham.

Swift’s 3-0 defeat of Dean Hardie kept him at the top, while Sebastian beat Swift and Craig Burns to come second.

Fordham’s 3-0 victories over Burns and Kashif Ali meant he leapfrogged them.

Matthew and Luke Robinson held on to first and second place in Division Three with both defeating Beth Brown and Tim Westwood 3-0.

Matthew’s win over Steve Wilson kept him ahead of his brother.

Wilson lost 2-1 to Laura Leach but 3-0 wins over Brown and Westwood were enough to take third place.

Alexander topped the Superleague by a point from last season’s winner Luke Robinson.

His wins over Will Baldwin, Ryan Houlston, Josh Andersen and Toby Wren kept him ahead of Luke, who finished with defeats of Houlston, Jack Davies and Saiful Islam.

Matthew Robinson was third, just ahead of Shier and Davies after beating the latter 3-0.

Season six is under way and new players can join.
