ACE Ryan Quek retained his men’s singles crown at the Worcestershire Badminton Association’s 70th restricted tournament in Worcester.

The annual senior county tournament was hosted by Tudor Grange Academy and also involved Worcestershire selection for the Badminton England Senior Counties Championship.

The 19-year-old did not drop a game and won 21-15, 21-6 in the final.

Quek was also crowned men’s doubles champion with Richard Sham and mixed doubles winner with Debbie Smith.

He is ranked 13th in the men’s singles in England as a grade A player and his mixed doubles seed is seventh.

Quek’s Badminton World Federation ranking for mixed doubles is just over 200 and he has entered the main draw in European tournaments with his partner.

His father Richard said: “Ryan thanks all his ex-coaches, Simon Archer OBE and fellow players from Worcester, who guided him during his younger days.

“He will continue to encourage young players in Worcestershire to play the game that brought Team GB a bronze medal at Rio, Brazil.

“He will pass on his experience in years to come to the younger generation.”

Although Quek lives in Halesowen, he represented Worcestershire aged from 12 until 17 and now competes for the county at senior level.
