FULL-back Tyler Weir could miss Worcester City’s long trip to Darlington tomorrow (3pm) due to the “imminent” arrival of his first child.

Manager Carl Heeley is anxiously awaiting news from Weir as he gears his side up for their “very tough” clash against the Vanarama National League North high-fliers.

Heeley admitted he was hopeful the birth would fall “kindly” for City but he said he was also prepared for the 25-year-old’s potential unavailability.

“Tyler’s girlfriend is due to give birth imminently,” said Heeley, who could be forced to play Cieron Keane at left-back.

“Hopefully, he will be available but I am expecting at some point in time Tyler is going to have to be at the birth of his new baby.

“Hopefully, that is kind to us with the timing but we can’t predict that, so we will have to wait and see.”

Centre-back Tom Sharpe is expected to be back in contention after a personal issue forced him to play no part in City’s 4-0 victory over Stalybridge Celtic last Saturday.

However, Heeley admitted he was reluctant to make changes after securing back-to-back clean sheets with Sam Oji playing a starring role alongside Graham Hutchison.

“We kept a clean sheet last week and defended brilliantly, so unless changes are forced upon us there is nothing to suggest we need to change that,” he said.

“However, I would like to have options and cover available to us defensively.”

Defender James Chambers looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a recurrence of his hamstring injury in training.

There are also doubts over the fitness of midfielder Junior English, who was ruled out last weekend to due a “sciatic nerve” problem with his back.

Worcester will travel more than 200 miles to Heritage Park, where Darlington are currently ground-sharing with Bishop Auckland.

Martin Gray’s side secured promotion from the Northern Premier League last season and have made an impressive start to life in the sixth tier with nine wins in their opening 14 games to sit in second place.

However, their only two defeats came at home and Heeley believes 12th-placed City are capable of securing all three points.

“Darlington have got a physical presence but they can play football as well,” Heeley said.

“They’ve got all the attributes of a very good National League North side, so we know it’s going to be very tough up there.

“But we go there on the back of a couple of decent results, which gives us confidence.

“We are not going to go up there and settle for a point.

“We want to go there and win the game but we know how tough it is going to be.

“But if we can be at our best and eradicate the little errors that have blighted us at times, then we will be a tough test for them.”
