TALENTED teenager Jamie Shillcock has signed his first professional contact with Worcester Warriors.

The 19-year-old “has still got a long way to travel” but believes “he’s in the right place for the development to happen,” according to head coach Carl Hogg.

Coventry-born academy starlet Shillcock had caught the attention of rival Aviva Premiership clubs after impressing in four top-flight games this term.

Shillcock admits “it’s a dream come true” to sign a new deal with "his childhood club.”

The versatile back, who can play at scrum-half, fly-half or full-back, was handed his first Premiership start for the club in September against Bath where he impressed with two assists and two try-saving tackles.

The youngster then bagged a brace of tries on his first home start against Sale Sharks, including a remarkable solo effort as he raced 60 metres to the whitewash.

Shillcock first hit the headlines as a 17-year-old in 2015 when he featured in Warriors' Championship semi-final second leg against London Scottish before going on to represent England Under 20s last winter.

His recent form has also seen him recalled to the England Under 20 squad alongside five of his fellow Warriors team-mates.

Shillcock said: "It's a dream come true for me to sign a professional first-team contract at my childhood club.

"It's been a surreal start to the campaign and I'm delighted with how things have gone.

"There's no place I'd rather be and I hope that I can push on and help this club reach its goal of becoming one of England and Europe's top teams.”

Hogg said: "Jamie has been presented with a fantastic opportunity in the early stages of the season and he's grabbed it with both hands.

"It's not easy to step up to the pace and intensity of the Aviva Premiership but as a teenager, he has shown tremendous composure and ability at the top level.

"We are delighted he has recognised that Sixways is a place where young players can learn, develop and grow through the facilities and infrastructure, and importantly, where they know they will get opportunities.

“There’s an understanding we have fantastic coaches like Sam Vesty, Simon Cross, Mefin Davies so young players recognise they are at the right place for them to get better and develop.

“Someone like Jamie he knows he’s still got a long way to travel in the game and know he’s got a lot of development.

“However, by signing a new deal, he clearly indicates he think he’s in the right place for that development to happen.

"We look forward to working with him over the coming years to try and help him realise his full potential.”
