PROLIFIC Tom Schubert scored his fourth hat-trick in consecutive weeks by netting all the goals in Worcester’s superb 4-3 win at Bournville.

The thrilling victory moved the city men’s firsts team up into mid-table in the Warwick Printing Midland Hockey League Premier Division.

However, the game was no walkover as Bourneville created plenty of chances in a close-fought contest.

Schubert opened his account on 10 minutes with a superb drag-flick penalty corner only to see Bourneville equalise 12 minutes later.  He was then quick to convert a loose ball in the D after brother Joe Schubert fizzed in a powerful cross from the left wing.

Worcester central defenders Matt Brace and James Cosh were kept busy and goalkeeper James Gerrish was called upon several times to maintain the advantage to the half-time break.

A lively start to the second period saw Bournville equalise and take the lead inside 10 minutes.

But, when Chris Kendall stole the ball from the Bourneville left-back, he linked with Joe Schubert, who drove into the D and drew a desperate tackle.

The umpire awarded a penalty stroke, which Tom Schubert converted.

The last 20 minutes was an even contest.

With the teams desperate to win, the hockey was often a little ugly and both sides lost players to the sin-bin.

Worcester counter-attacked with five minutes remaining through Kendall and Richard Stocks.

The latter drove down the right wing and found an unmarked Tom Schubert on the back post to secure the win.

In the final minutes, Bournville almost equalised again but for three back-to-back saves from Worcester’s man-of-the-match Gerrish.

Chris Watling scored twice as Worcester seconds beat Bournville 4-0 in the West Midlands Premier Division.

Worcester were on the back of a bad defeat but started brightly and took control without taking their chances.

Skipper Watling found space and fired home after neat passing by Matt Hooper, Joe Sullivan and Ollie Ranscombe.

Bournville’s keeper made a string of saves before a well-worked short corner saw Watling bury his second goal.

In the second half, Will Hood beat three players to set up Rob Goodman for a tap-in.

The final goal was a penalty flick slotted home by Hooper.

Worcester thirds lost 4-2 at high-flying Barford Tigers in Midlands Division One.  They started strongly with quick, strong and fluid play as a well-worked move down the right saw Kieran Shipley score a fine goal.

Barford levelled from a flurry of short corners but Worcester regained the lead through a breakaway goal from Max Butterfield.

Tigers equalised again from a dubious short corner and then took the lead in the second half through a solo strike as Worcester missed three open goals.

The fifths crashed to a 4-0 defeat Edgbaston fourths in the West Midlands Premier Division.

Their defence allowed a forward to run through unchallenged and they were then caught on the counter-attack.

Worcester struggled to string passes together and the defence were again caught sleeping for the third goal.

Edgbaston added just one more in the second period as the visitors rallied.

Worcester eighths beat Sutton Coldfield ninths 3-0 in South West Division Two with George Pawson, Andrew Pritchard and Jacob Chakko-George on target.

The city side dominated but failed to finish off more of their numerous chances and scored just once in the first half.

A short corner allowed George Chakko-George to inject a ball stopped by Ali McGonigle for Pawson to lift into the net.

Pritchard scored the second and Jacob Chakko-George added a well-taken third.

Dominic Hole was man of the match for his strength in defence.
