FORMER Australia wing Cooper Vuna will be performing this weekend – but not in Worcester Warriors colours.

The 29-year-old, who has switch allegiance to Tonga, will be smashing the decks in an exclusive DJ set at Velvet nightclub in Worcester on Saturday.

Vuna is currently on the sidelines after hurting his knee in Warriors’ 11-9 victory against Newcastle Falcons earlier this month and will be out of action for around “six weeks”.

Warriors travel to former Aviva Premiership champions Harlequins on Saturday (3pm) bidding for their second win of the campaign.

New Zealand-born Vuna will be joined at the Halloween bash by Warriors prop James Johnston, the Samoan international.

“Cooper is a big personality on and off the field and it’s great he’s able to keep his spirits high through periods of injury," said Warriors head coach Carl Hogg. "That’s always the tough thing for a professional rugby player.”

“Cooper is making progress but he’s still a month, six weeks away."

Fellow Warriors wing Bryce Heem also remains on the sidelines after hurting his knee in pre-season but “should not be too far away”, according to Hogg.

“Bryce is making progress and it shouldn’t be too far away now – four or five weeks hopefully and he can get in the mix,” said Hogg.

He will be another shot in the arm for us when he comes back.

"He’s a quality player that if comes into the squad and is fit and available, it makes a difference.”

Warriors have been rocked by injuries to a string of high-profile players, including scrum-half Francois Hougaard.

Hougaard suffered the injury on international duty with South Africa and won’t be available for around 10 to 12 weeks.

Hogg said: “The rate of attrition in rughy is very high and whether that’s off the back of a World Cup period and then playing 10 Premiership games on the bounce we don’t know.

“I don’t think there is any one thing you can put your finger on as a reason for it.

“If we could identify it we would change it. I think other sides in the Premiership are in a similar boat and losing a lot of players.”

Meanwhile, Warriors are hoping to “reap the benefits” of centre Ben Te’o’s inclusion in England’s squad for the autumn international series.

The 29-year-old scored a try in Warriors’ 25-24 European Challenge Cup defeat against Brive last Saturday.

Te’o is in Eddie Jones’ squad to face South Africa, Fiji, Argentina and Australia on successive weekends, starting with the Springboks at Twickenham on Saturday, November 12.

“I am delighted for Ben,” said Hogg.

“He came to Worcester and had a concussion episode against Gloucester so he has had a little bit of a slow start for us.

“I am delighted he’s involved in the England squad and hopefully we will reap the benefits as a club.”

Te’o will miss Worcester’s Premiership matches against Northampton Saints, Exeter Chiefs and Wasps while he’s on England duty.

But Hogg said: “We want to create a club where we have competitive players who are able to play international rugby but if that’s one of the downsides of players going away to play international rugby you live with that.

“I am delighted for Ben to get a call-up and hopefully he can be successful over the autumn period for England.”
