ADRIAN Tinker won the medal at Worcester’s Ravenmeadow and Perdiswell Park with a well-constructed 65 nett.

Playing off 15 handicap, Tinkler carded seven pars and birdies on the 13th and 18th holes.

But, having dropped a few shots mid-round with double bogies on the seventh and 17th and a triple on the fourth, he needed count-back to snatch the victory by just one shot with 29 on the way home.

Barry Warner (18 handicap) finished tied after also dropping in seven pars but lost the win by virtue of coming home in 30.

Warner carded two double bogies on the front nine and another on the 10th.

Steve Williams (7) took third place with 66 after dropping in nine pars and three birdies on the sixth, 15th and 17th.

A double bogey on the par-four second tripped up the normally big-hitting Williams.

Kevin Smith (9) took fourth place after returning 67 with 11 pars as eight out of 18 players came in with nett par for the course or better.

Winter greens were brought into play for the non-qualifier stableford with just 16 players not put off by the frozen conditions.

Steve Duggan (19) coped best and came in with a respectable 37 points to take the win.

Three pars and two birdies on the 13th and 18th holes took Duggan to the head of the field although he failed to score with triple bogies on the sixth and 17th.

Tony Cooper (22) finished second after returning 36 as the only other player to have par nett or better for the course.

Cooper managed four pars and only failed to score once on the sixth.

Count-back was required to separate the next two finishers and Geoff Jones’ 19 points on the back nine just earned him third position.

The 20-handicapper had three pars and a birdie on the 18th and only failed to record a score once on the eighth in his score of 35.

Glyndwr Jarvis (28) finished tied but had to be content with fourth when his back nine 18 proved just insufficient.

He managed just one par and failed to score on just one hole.

Six pars, with five on the back nine, and 42 points earned Andy Turner (26) victory in the third event of the seven-round winter league.

Turner carded 17 on the front nine and 25 on the back with failure to score points on the fifth and 13th threatening to mar his overall card.

But Turner dug deep and held off the chasing pack to finish three shots clear and had his playing handicap reduced to 25.

David Brace (28) took second with 39 after two pars on the way out combined with a failure to score on the second and ninth gave Brace an outward tally of 16.

Following another non-scoring hole on the 10th, he improved and amassed another 23 on the way in.

Count-back was then required to separate four who finished tied with 37. Phil Lane (15) dropped in seven pars, managed to record a score on every hole and eventually took third place based on his last six.

Ian Threadgold just failed to match Lane’s finish and was relegated to fourth after being the early in-clubhouse leader.

Threadgold (22) recorded three pars and a birdie on the second  but will rue a quadruple bogie and no-score on the seventh.

Tied with Lane and Threadgold but missing out on count-back were Neil Harrison and Richard Adcock as 33 players took to the tees.
