TWO games in the space of three days is “not ideal” for injury-hit Worcester City, admits experienced defender James Chambers.

The Blue and Whites welcome FC United of Manchester to Bromsgrove’s Victoria Ground today (3pm) before heading to Greater Manchester to face Curzon Ashton on Monday (7.45pm).

Winger Connor Hughes and centre-back Tom Sharpe face long lay-offs with knee injuries, while captain Danny Jackman (back) and attacking midfielder Micah Evans (calf) face fitness tests.

City, who are just two points above the drop zone, will also be without the suspended Sam Oji and top scorer Lee Hughes who starts his four-match ban this weekend.

Chambers, who has recently returned from a hamstring injury, is expected to start at centre-back alongside Graham Hutchison against FC United and looks set to feature at Curzon too.

“The injuries and suspensions do not help us as it limits the options for (manager) Carl (Heeley) in terms of who he can play and bring on,” said the 36-year-old.

“The timing of these two games is not ideal but it is something we have got to try to cope with and get enough players out there.”

The former Leicester City, West Brom and Walsall player made his first start since early September last Saturday when Worcester took on third-from-bottom Bradford Park Avenue.

But shortly after he was replaced by Sean Geddes in the closing stages Nicky Boshell slammed home an injury-time winner for the visitors.

“When you go so far through a game and concede with the last kick it is disappointing,” said Chambers who came out of retirement to sign for Worcester in September.

“But that sometimes happens in football so it is a case of learning from that.

“The next game is the most important one. It will be a tough match against FC United but I am hoping we can put in a good performance and get a positive result.

“One thing I have noticed since I have been here is there is a lot of quality within the squad so we have got the ability to get something out of any game.”

Worcester are on a six-match winless streak with their last victory in the league against AFC Telford United on November 12.

But Chambers added: “It is always difficult when you are losing and results aren’t going right.

“But the key is to play in a manner which gives you a good chance of getting a win.

“It is alright wanting to win but you have got to get the performances right first and hopefully get results off the back of that.

“I am happy to be out there and hopefully I can contribute in any way I can, whether that’s on or off the pitch.”

City are hoping today’s gate will be swelled by more than 300 FC United fans.

They are poised to make a new signing in time for today or Monday’s game.
