WORCESTER City boss Carl Heeley admits he does not expect “too much” from highly-rated young striker Dan Turner.

The pacey 18-year-old has joined Worcester on a one-month loan from Port Vale and played 56 minutes of their 1-1 draw at Curzon Ashton on Monday.

He is also likely to feature against fellow strugglers Alfreton Town in National League North at the Impact Arena tomorrow.

Heeley said he had been impressed with Turner who has made six appearances for Port Vale and secured his first professional contract last year.

But City’s manager admitted the teenager had only come in to bolster their attacking options with top scorer Lee Hughes banned for the trips to Alfreton and Gloucester City next Saturday.

“Dan is a young lad and came highly recommended from Port Vale,” Heeley said. “But it was just a case of getting someone in.”

Turner has had a loan spell at Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One South Kidsgrove Athletic in September.

“He has got good feet, works hard and has a good attitude,” Heeley said. “But it is tough for players coming in at this standard of football and it will take him a little time to adjust. You can’t expect too much (from him).”

Seventeenth-placed City have not won in the league since beating AFC Telford United 2-1 at Bromsgrove’s Victoria Ground on November 12.

But Heeley added: “I think results will come once we have got our full complement of players available for us to select.

“We have been down to the bare bones and done ever so well. I was really pleased with all the lads on Monday.”
