FROZEN pitches caused most McDonald’s Worcester and District Football League matches to be postponed with only five fixtures surviving.

Sunday Division One title chasers Bedwardine had a comfortable 5-2 win over Fernhill Heath Athletic at Pitchcroft.

Ben Price gave Bedwardine an early lead when he took a through-ball from Tom Hobbs to find the corner of the net.

Heath were soon level with Richard Crowe converting a cross from Aaron Gormley.

Price caused havoc in the visitors’ defence and restored Bedwardine’s lead with a cool finish after a mazy run past three defenders.

The unfortunate Kieran Kinsella sliced the ball past his own keeper Andy Morgan to make it 3-1.

Heath were dangerous on the break and Crowe brought them back into the game with a splendid finish from a Sam Carey cross.

With Richard Lawrence and Nathan Hayward dominating midfield, Rhys Turberfield extended Bedwardine’s lead with a delightful lob over Morgan’s head.

Simon Lock and Hobbs blazed over before the latter eventually found the corner of the net in the 90th minute to complete the scoring.

AFC Claines kept their promotion hopes alive but made heavy weather of a 2-1 win over bottom-of-the-table Ale Madrid.

Jordan King gave Claines the lead with a powerful header at the back post from a Steve Banks cross.

Madrid deservedly drew level from a penalty with Dave Jones converting after Banks brought down Kieran Deegan.

Claines’ blushes were spared when Elliot King drove home the winner from 12 yards.

Callow End opened up a six-point lead at the top of the Premier Division with a straightforward 4-0 victory over Worcester Saints.

Rob Sinclair netted twice with the other strikes coming from Jon Mann and impressive midfielder Jake Saunders who was man of the match.

With games in hand over the leaders, Clifton Rovers are well placed for honours in Division Two.

Josh Stafford and James Marine netted in their 2-0 success at Colwall St James.

Lower Teme and Martley enhanced their Division Four title chances with a 3-1 win at fellow challengers GDL Athletic.

Joe Bruce, Josh Cochrane and Dan Soley scored for the second-placed side who are four points behind leaders St Johns Colts with four games in hand.
